Sahil Taneja is a Partner & Head of Corporate Advisory at Al Alawi & Co and has been with the firm since 2013. Sahil is an attorney with more than 14 years of experience. Prior to joining Al Alawi & Co, Sahil worked for an eminent law firm in Delhi where he was heading the corporate law team as a Managing Associate.
Sahil heads the firm’s Corporate Group and specializes in cross-border investments, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, due diligences and regulatory matters, where he is extremely active on the transactional front. General corporate/commercial advisory also forms a significant part of his practice, including, rendering legal advice and opinions on unique aspects of company law, corporate governance, anti-trust regulations, free zone rules and employment legislation.
Sahil is regularly tasked with drafting/reviewing/negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, inter alia, shareholders’ agreements, joint ventures, distribution and franchising arrangements, employment contracts and service agreements. Further, he is also part of the firm’s real estate practice and frequently engaged as counsel vis-à-vis development projects, usufruct and sub-usufruct arrangements, and matters relating to transfer/lease of immovable property and support on relevant government procedures/registrations. He also plays an important part in pre-trial strategy formulation and/or alternative dispute resolution through mediation or arbitration, particularly as it relates to shareholder disputes, construction disputes and commercial matters.
Sahil also plays a key role in administering the India desk of the firm thereby engaging and managing relationships with clients and associate law offices from India. He is a regular attendee at the International Bar Association seminars and events held in India from time to time.
Sahil has spoken at conferences on a variety of subjects, notably, non-compete provisions in employment contracts, anti-bribery/corruption & anti-money laundering law and corporate governance developments. Sahil also authored/co-authored several publications, including on the viability of confidential information & trade secret protection, Omani laws on combating money laundering & terrorism financing and repercussions of the United States Oman Free Trade Agreement.
Sahil received his Bachelor of Law Degree from Amity Law School, GGSIP University (New Delhi) in 2005 and is enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi Bar Council and licensed to practice across all courts in India.
